Overview

The Islamic Thought and Muslim Societies (ITMS) is an academic program designed to advance knowledge and scientific research in the fields of Islamic studies. This program is part of the Department of Islamic Studies, which focuses on multidisciplinary studies at the master's and doctoral levels. This program offers specialized education that integrates the study of Islamic texts with the broader humanities. Students in this program are trained in theories and methods from Islamic studies, social sciences, humanities, and area studies. This multidisciplinary framework equips students with a well-rounded understanding of Islamic knowledge from various perspectives. The goal is to provide both theoretical and practical insights, helping students analyze and understand diverse phenomena within Islamic societies.

Admission Requirements for the Master's Program

1. Obtaining a bachelor's degree in various fields of disciplines in social sciences and humanities from a recognized university.
2. Proof of proficiency in English by submitting a certificate of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) from an accredited language institution, with a minimum score of 500 (or IELTS score 6).
3. Filling out the registration form.
4. Submitting a certified copy of the bachelor's degree certificate and transcript.
5. Submitting two letters of recommendation from university professors or academic supervisors confirming the academic and research competence of the applicant.
6. Submitting a study plan consisting of at least two pages.
7. Enclosing a copy of a published article.
8. Paying the registration fee.

 

Graduation Criteria for the Master's Degree

1. Completing 54 credit hours as a graduation requirement, including 10 credit hours for the Master's thesis.  

2. Writing the Master's thesis in English.  

3. Achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.  

4. Obtaining a minimum score of 500 on Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL; or IELTS with minimum score of 6) from an accredited language institution before defending the thesis.  

5. Completing the program within a minimum of 4 semesters.

Admission Requirements for Doctoral Program

1. Obtaining a master's degree in various fields of social sciences and humanities from a recognized university with a cumulative GPA of not less than 3.00.
2. Submitting a certified copy of the master's degree and transcript.
3. Submitting two letters of recommendation from university professors or academic supervisors confirming the academic and research competence of the applicant.
4. Preparing a study plan that includes the study background and future plan after graduation, not less than 500 words.
5. Submitting a Curriculum Vitae (CV) that includes personal data, academic background, published research, participation in conferences and seminars, scientific papers, as well as non-academic achievements.
6. Submitting a thesis proposal between 5000 and 7500 words.
7. Attaching a copy of a published scientific article (if any).
8. Submitting proof of English proficiency by submitting a certificate of the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) from an accredited language institution, with a minimum score of 500 (or IELTS with a minimum score of 6).
9. Filling out the registration form completely.
10. Paying the registration fees.

 

Graduation Criteria for the PhD Degree

1. Completing 59 study hours as a condition for graduation, including 20 hours allocated for the PhD thesis.
2. Writing the PhD thesis in English.
3. Obtaining a score of no less than 500 on the Test of English Proficiency (TOAFL) from an accredited language institution before the thesis defence.
4. Publishing a scientific article in an international peer-reviewed scientific journal as a basic requirement before the thesis defence.
5. Completing of the study period ranging from 6 to 12 semesters.
